2019 Breeders’ Cup Betting Guide and Best Sites to Bet Online

The 2019 Breeders’ Cup takes place on November 1st and 2nd at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, California. As per custom, we will be treated to two days of high-quality racing this weekend with the highlight of course being the $6,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Classic.

With $28 million in purses and another $2 million in other awards up for grabs, there is going to be a lot to take in this weekend and plenty of opportunities to take a shot at grabbing some rewards of your own.

Racing betting sites in the US and around the world will be covering the Breeders’ Cup from start to finish with a full menu of betting options and promotions for one of the busiest days on the US horse racing calendar. With that in mind, today’s Breeders’ Cup betting guide will provide the full schedule of events, current betting odds and help you find a place to bet on the Breeders’ Cup safely and legally.

Where to Bet on the 2019 Breeders’ Cup

Online racing betting is legal in most of the US and that means most of you reading this have your pick of betting sites that are legal, regulated and reputable. The sites you see above accept customers from most states and will be taking wagers on the Breeders’ Cup all weekend long.

One potentially confusing issue when it comes to choosing a mobile racebook is the fact that every site has a slightly different list of accepted states. If you attempt to join one site and are unable, it may be worth your while to try the next site down the list. You can also see our reviews here for more information on which states are accepted.

The only states with no online racing betting whatsoever are: Alaska, Arizona, Georgia, Hawaii, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Utah.

How to Watch the Breeders’ Cup Online or on TV

The main event of the weekend goes off at 8:44 PM EDT on Saturday and will be broadcast live across the country on NBC starting at 8 PM EDT. Every other race will be shown on NBC Sports Network along with pre and post-race commentary.

You can also watch the Breeders’ Cup online through any US-licensed racebook. BetAmerica, TVG and TwinSpires will all be showing every race live online and through their respective mobile apps.

2019 Breeders’ Cup Classic Favorites

The Longines Classic is the headline race of the weekend with a post time of 8:44 PM EDT. While every other race will be broadcast on NBC Sports Network, this one will take the NBC primetime slot starting at 8 PM.

This year, the Breeders’ Cup Classic looks wide open compared to years past with no single horse standing out as the dominant betting favorite. The morning line favorite, McKinzie, is priced at just 3/1 and is followed by two more contenders in Code of Honor and Vino Rosso who are both priced just a tad longer at 4/1.

Behind them come Higher Power and Elate at 6/1 apiece, Yoshida at 8/1 and everyone else at 12/1 or worse. This is truly anyone’s race to win.

McKinzie

  • Morning line odds: 3-1
  • Trainer: Bob Baffert

The name “Bob Baffert” is all many bettors will need to see to be sold on McKinzie. Of course, a beautiful record doesn’t hurt his stock much either. McKinzie has finished in 1st or 2nd place in all but one of his 13 career races.

Interestingly, the one hiccup he’s had so far came at last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic. He pressed the pace early on last year but then faded to finish in 12th place. That outing remains the only stain on an otherwise exemplary record.

Code of Honor

  • Morning line odds: 4-1
  • Trainer: Claude R. “Shug” McGaughey

Code of Honor seems to be hitting his stride at just the right time to pose a serious threat at the Breeders’ Cup. He’s coming off three wins in a row, including his most recent victories at the Travers Stakes and Jockey Club Gold Cup. A second-place finish at the Kentucky Derby earlier this year is also worth noting.

Shug McGaughey liked what he saw with Code of Honor’s recent performances and recently said those outings convinced him to give the horse a shot at the Breeders’ Cup:

“I’ve been impressed with the way he’s come out of his races, especially the Travers, and then the Gold Cup. I had a lot of confidence going into the Travers and going into the Gold Cup; I just didn’t know how he would step up against the older horses in the Gold Cup. Then after the way he did it, and the way he came out of it, I thought he deserved a chance.”

Vino Rosso

  • Morning line odds: 4-1
  • Trainer: Todd Pletcher

Vino Rosso has been all over the board over his career but has shown more than once he can win tough races. Vino Rosso recently crossed the finish line ahead of Code of Honor at the Jockey Club Gold Cup only to have an inquiry result in sending him back to second place for nudging Code of Honor.

His strongest recent finish came back in May where he won the Gold Cup at Santa Anita – the same track where he’ll be running again this weekend. Vino Rosso is a tempting pick despite his somewhat erratic results.

Higher Power

  • Morning line odds: 6-1
  • Trainer: John Sadler

Higher Power looks like he could be in the middle of finding his stride as he heads into the 2019 Breeders’ Cup. His last three races have resulted in in-the-money finishes: 2nd at the Wickerr Stakes, 1st at the G1 Pacific Classic and 3rd at the G1 Awesome Again.

Trainer John Sadler has been here before as well. It was under him that Accelerate won last year’s Breeders’ Cup.

Elate

  • Morning line odds: 6-1
  • Trainer: William I. Mott

Elate comes highly experienced with 17 races to his name and nearly all of those ending with a 1st or 2nd place finish. Most recently, Elate scored a pair of wins in June and July at the G2 Fleur de Lis and G2 Delaware Handicap. Those were followed by a pair of second place finishes at the G1 Personal Ensign and G1 Spinster in August and October.

Trainer Bill Mott has two Breeders’ Cup Classic victories to his name (Cigar in 1995 and Drosselmeyer in 2011).
