Where: Belmont Park in Elmont, New York

The third leg of the exhausting Triple Crown is coming to New York this weekend with the 147th running on Saturday. Horse racing fans are in for a treat as we once again have a contender for the elusive Triple Crown title in American Pharoah. It has been 37 years since Affirmed took the last Triple Crown title and since then, 13 runners have come close with wins in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness stakes but all have failed to seal the deal.
Will American Pharoah be the one? It’s what we ask every year and by now, we’re used to disappointment. Then again, the rarity of the title is what makes it so intriguing. The racetracks and horse betting sites are all happy to see a contender either way. It’s always good for attracting viewers and generating betting handle.
Whether you’re here as a long time fan or just because you heard something about a potential Triple Crown title, I’ve got everything you need to know to bet on the Belmont Stakes online and hopefully make a little money. At the very least, having a wager on the line is always a sure-fire way to up the excitement factor.
Best Belmont Stakes Betting Sites
The first thing you need to do is find a Belmont stakes betting site. If you can’t attend the race in person (they’re limiting capacity to about 90,000 this year by the way), there are several legal sites hosted right here in the USA that allow you to place real money horse wagers. It’s all legal thanks to exemptions included in the UIGEA. You can sign up with your real name, place a real bet and then get paid all legally at sites that are licensed by US-based racing commissions.
When I say “legal,” I’m not using some creative interpretation of the word that includes visiting offshore sites hosted in faraway jurisdictions out of reach of US law enforcement. These sites are actually legal and licensed. The bets you place are added to the track’s actual prize pool and you are paid at full track odds.
BetAmerica Promotions: Guaranteed No-Loser and Triple Winnings
BetAmerica is guaranteeing that you can’t lose with American Pharoah. If you’re just here to get a piece of the action on a potentially historic Triple Crown title, BetAmerica is the site for you. Place a win bet on American Pharoah to win the Belmont Stakes and they will refund it if he loses.
Here’s the catch: your bet needs to be exactly $10 and you must place it between 5 PM ET and 6 PM ET on Friday. Make sure you get there in time so you can book your bet. I can’t guarantee that you’ll win your wager, but I can guarantee you won’t lose it. This one of the few times you’ll ever see me use the word “guarantee” in anything related to horse racing.
Also on Friday they are hosting a second happy hour from 8-9 PM ET. Place a win bet on American Pharoah during that time and BetAmerica will triple your winnings if he wins the race by more than 3 lengths.
TwinSpires: $20K Guarantee Handicapping Tournament
TwinSpires recently doubled the prize pool for this weekend’s Belmont Stakes online handicapping tournament. The prize pool is now worth $20,000 with a $150 buyin. If that’s a bit steep for your bankroll, you can win a seat through satellites for as little as $15 starting on Wednesday.
The main event happens on Saturday and will award $10,000 to the first place finisher plus cash prizes for all top 12 finishers. Additionally, the top 10 finishers will get a free seat to the TwinSpires $50K guaranteed Online Handicapping Tournament. That one will be giving out free seats to land-based Las Vegas tournaments in addition to the $50,000 worth of prizes.
About American Pharoah
American Pharoah is the strongest contender this year with betting odds expected to be around 4/5. He’s currently sitting on a 6-race hot streak with first place finishes in every race he’s participated in since September of 2014. He ran his last practice runs on Monday before getting ready to make the trip up to New York.
His trainers seem quite satisfied with how his last workout went. Words like “effortless” and “unbelievable” were uttered on Monday, with high hopes abound for American Pharoah. He may be the favorite, but he faces an uphill battle. Not only is the race itself challenging and not only is the Triple Crown schedule grueling, but he’ll also be facing off against rested up runners who skipped the Preakness, Kentucky Derby or both. He’ll be the only horse in the lineup to have started in both of the other legs of the Triple Crown.
But if anyone knows what’s in store, it is American Pharoah’s trainer Bob Baffert. He’s been in this exact position three times before. He knows the odds are against him and that his horse is painted with a target. Bob himself put it best when he said earlier that “everybody right now is sharpening their knives getting ready.”
Long odds are the name of the game. If anyone can overcome, it is Bob Baffert. We’ll watch it all play out live just a few days from now.
